The brand you feed is your dog's main source of nutrition and vital to a long and healthy life. As a caring pet parent, it is important to see through clever marketing ploys when choosing a food worthy of your best friend. Although you may think all pet food manufacturers have your pet’s best interests in mind, this is not always the case. Some manufacturers use ingredients that you would never knowingly feed your dog. In fact, you may be shocked to learn what some brands of dog food really contain. We have been spreading the news about health and nutrition for your pets. Unfortunately, many people are still unaware of the possible dangers to feeding many of the commercial brands available at your grocery or mega pet center. Of major concern is the reports that have been flooding websites like Commercial Affairs, Truth About Pet Food, Facebook and even the FDA Blue Buffalo has always been considered by many as a "top of the line" product. But here recently, things have seen to take a turn for the worse for this company that focused it's marketing on health savvy individuals. Consumer affairs has received 220 complaints about Blue Buffalo. Up from 186 last week. Click Here to learn more. Even without these new challenges coming out, we feel that there is a better option COMPARE HERE Nutro has been another "go to" brand for many. We have found that Consumer Affairs has received over 1,300 complaints. Click Here to read about the problems associated with Nutro. Based upon nine nutritional measures critical to making a superior food we have made an evaluation of Nutro. COMPARE HERE Beneful has been popular for shoppers who don't necessarily research nutrition or take the time to look into the ingredients. The packaging of the product gives a sense of health and vitality and for many shoppers, that is good enough. It's low cost per bag makes it attractive on the financial end but what many do not understand is that you have to feed 3 times the amount of Beneful compared to a higher quality product. This actually ends up costing the same or even more in the long run but a huge potential loss in health to your beloved pet. Beneful has received 463 complaints on just the Consumer Affairs site alone. Find out more by Clicking Here You can compare Beneful here: COMPARE HERE Susan Thixton of The Truth About Pet Foods writes: "Many reports of sick pets have been published of late – reporting three different pet foods are linked to hundreds of sick pets. Questions were sent to FDA, here is their response…" FDA states “We have two complaints thus far in 2013 for Blue Buffalo, which is comparable to previous years (23 last year and 18 in 2011). For Nutro, we have seen an increase just recently: 10 complaints so far, compared with 37 last year and 8 in 2011. For Beneful, we received 45 complaints in January, 50 in February and have 8 so far in March. It’s important to note that whenever an issue gets publicity, we see an increase in complaints.” This is not to say that there are not hundreds of sick pets out there right now linked to these pet foods. This is saying the FDA is not receiving those reports. No investigation can take place without reports of illness or death to authorities. No investigation means more illnesses or deaths. Please everyone – if your pet becomes ill you believe is linked to a pet food or treat, report it to proper authorities. Those authorities are… 1. Your Veterinarian (seek treatment first!)
2. FDA (Click Here to report online; Click Here for a state by state list of Complaint Coordinator phone numbers) 3. State Department of Agriculture (ask for pet food investigator) with the exception of the following states… California – State authority for pet food is Department of Public Health; report pet food/treat adverse event to CA Department of Public Health.Hawaii – State authority for pet food is Department of Public Health; report pet food/treat adverse event to Department of Health.Nevada – no state authority over pet food; FDA is the only place to report. 4. Pet Food Manufacturer 5. Place of purchase Save the pet food and packaging. Investigators need pet food for testing and lot numbers (not the UPC code) for identification. Please see the Report It!
